If you've ever thought about starting a meadery, the first thing you have to learn is that for all intents and purposes a meadery is actually a winery. So, it's a good idea to start learning from people that run wineries in this country. You'll find that they are very helpful. A specific group of people you'll want to learn from are the people in the Small Winery group on Yahoo. I've learned a ton from just subscribing to the daily digest of messages and read them all. You'll find that most of these people are just like you. They usually started as home winemakers and decided to make their obsession a business. Most importantly, find some wineries that are from your own state. They can be the most helpful of all since each states laws are different, and the state license will most likely be the most difficult to obtain.

You can find the group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/small_winery/
