The majority of the calories come from the FG, not the alcohol. Low mash temperatures (or other ways of getting the fermentability very high) mean very low FGs and thus low calorie beer.

And yes, 129 calories for 12 oz is a very low cal beer, all things considered. I think I've made one that topped 500. ;D

Just in case anyone was wondering, this was a pretty good failure. I can drink the stuff, but it's pushing it. The problem wasnt the tips, though I can't say I love what they added in a beer (maybe in a mead though), the problem was that I need to learn to stop trying for the 3% beers until I'm a better brewer, this is unbelievably thin. Also, I should have packed my brown sugar down a bit when measuring out my prime, this is just barely carb'd at all.

Live and learn! (and drink!) Sounds like a fun experience either way.

I've had good luck lately with the small beers. I can send you a recipe for a Mild if you want to give it another shot. They also work well with lower carbonation.

I'd very much appreciate that, I have roommates that don't drink much, and I like to have something lighter to drink while gaming and such so as to not get sloshed! I like a decent carb level myself, even in darker beers, but nothing crazy.
