Does anyone know the gravity for 7 pounds of sugar? i'm trying to mod a recipe found else where and want to substitute honey for the sugar that the original recipe calls for. gotta figure out how much honey to use.
2 lb sugar in a US gallon of water gives a SG of 1.090 (sorry, no source, I found that on the 'net and wrote it down years ago) and I find a kilogram (2.2 lb?) of honey gives me about the same, maybe a little less.
The reference book I use (Terry Garey's Joy of Home Winemaking, lots of fun but not terribly scientific) adds 1/4 lb to convert 2 lb sugar to honey and it adds half a pound to convert 3 lbs sugar to honey. Hope that helps a bit.
Take a look at the mead calculator by the link to the left here, just select sugar from the drop down, plug in 7 lbs (check the box) and plug in your target volume (check the box for volume) and hit calculate.
