I wish I had that problem! When I ask around, most of the people in my town have no idea what mead is. I've got a few buddies that are into import beers and wines, but they're the exception to the rule from what I've seen. One's German and the other's a chef lol

The closest apiary is about 2 hours from here too.. which probably helps.
