I was going to say, winning gold in either mel catagory is impressive, very impressive. I'm not sure how many braggots I had to compete against, but I'm sure it wasn't even remotely close to what was entered for berry mels!

In your list, you're obviously missing the Gold that that Medsen Fey dude took! CONGRATS for an INCREDIBLE mead that rose to the top of an INSANELY COMPETITIVE Berry Mel field!!!

Oh, the demureness of these GOTMEAD? mentors.

Thanks for bringing home the Gold for gotmead.com. Medsen. You did us all proud!

Cheers :occasion14:

For that matter, thanks to AToE (Alan - it was great to meet you, dude!) for validating the Braggot-docio recipe! Two years, two meadmakers, back-to-back mazers. We're doing something right with this one. ;)

And thanks for the recipe! It was great to meet you too. I will have to post some kind of summary of my recipe and process in the proven recipes forum, I think it was different enough from yours to earn a spot of it's own there - actually I'm amazed how different the 2 versions were while somehow remaining very clearly based on the same recipe, almost like how identical twins end up so different from eachother but still so similar.

I prefered yours personally (vastly actually, mine is just too heavy and thick and raisiny for me to drink too much of at a time).

I also want to point out that Braggot-docio's win this year proves just how powerful the mentorship here is, and how much those recipes in the patrons section are easily worth the patron's fee. That win had relatively little to do with my own skills - I had been making mead for much less than a year when I made that one, which really shows just how good the recipe was that even I couldn't botch it too badly (even though I did... some of those botches worked out OK though) and how good the mentorship was to help me not only make that batch, but to save it from disaster after it refused to bottle carb!

Who else am I missing? Please step forward and take some well-earned pats on the back.

Hey Medsen you are missing me I got a gold in the metheglin category with "Basilisk" lime basil and sweet basil metheglin. Congratulations on your win! :)

Cheers
Jon

Well done sir! Well done.
That is a most unusual combination. Was that sweet or dry?

And who else is missing?

Medsen.. it is an unusual combo but the flavors of the lime basil, sweet basil and lime zest go really well with orange blossom honey. I fermented with 5W83 which really brought the citrus and esters in the aroma. It was semi sweet.

Cheers,
Jon

The Best of Show round was very tough, there were so many great meads we had to work very hard to go through the contenders and arrive at a winner.

So to all of you who had a first place in a particular category congratulations on a job well done. This year the quality of the Best of Show round meads was stellar.

Cheers,

Oskaar

My congratulations to Jon for a gold as well. Sorry, but I don't know eveyone by their real names. :)

And I totally overlooked Alan's silver. Way to go on your first time out. :notworthy:

Congrats to all of you who did so well!

It's really cool to know that I'm not just taking advice from some people on the internet, I'm taking advice from award winning mead-makers! :headbang:

Well done, everyone!!

If I can't get there myself I guess I should at least try to enter something next year...

It appears the GotMeaders had some good success.
The Exlines - what kind of grape is squishy yellow?

Squishy Yellow is an ice wine/late harvest Gewürztraminer Pyment :) Wine kits make excellent pyment starters in our experience!

Cheers!
