I have a dry mead I that I’ve split into (5) 1-gallon batches after fermentation was complete. When I racked over to the 1-gallon car boys at the 4-week mark, the mead was still cloudy. I decided to age 2 of the batches on a vanilla bean each. I split the beans in half and dropped them in without presoaking as I intended to leave them in for 3 months or more. I’ve noticed a slimey looking substance developing around the 2 batches I dropped the vanilla bean in. Is this normal or do I have a bad batch on my hands?
There is no foul odors that I can detect but my other 3 batches do not have this susbstance development.
