Greetings! We can never have too many opportunities to talk about brewing in the SCA, expecially here in Caid.

I am THLord Donal O'Brien from the Barony of Dreiburgen. I love brewing up just about any type of mead, wine, cordial, beer, vinegar, soda, syrup, sekanjabin, syllabub, hypocrys, and shrub.

I am also the Secretary/Exchquer/Webmaster for the Right Noble Brewers Guild of Caid.

Caid Brewers Guild website can be found at:
http://brewers.sca-caid.org/

You will see a link there back to this form tomorrow.

Donal,

Wow, this is great! I can't wait to peek in on you and your fellow SCA brewers exchanging thoughts and ideas. Can I ask a question right off? How is the learning/teaching structure of Caid set up, and how does one usually go about producing drinkables? In other words, do you have a formalized hierarchy and program in place, or is it more relaxed, with members of the Guild getting together periodically to work on common projects?

Hip Hip Hazzah!

Hey Brian, glad to see you diving in here at Gotmead.com. I had a question for you about your honey source, that being who and where! LOL

Anyhow, PM me when you have a chance?

Wassail,

Oskaar

Thanks for the link, Donal! Oh, and I started my first mead this weekend! I have done mosty syrups and cordials, but last month I brewed my first ale, a brown ale. It'll be ready by next week at the earliest, since I bottled it over a week ago. I'll make sure to bring some to the Kingdom guild meeting so you can try it.

Local Honey Source

Hello all,

I recommed Miller's for honey. They are local and not too terribly expensive and I can personally attest that their orange blosom honey makes a fine mead . Here is there website http://www.millershoney.com/

Welcome to Gotmead Fedelm Dub,

Feel free to join in on the other Gotmead forums as well, I am particularly interested in hearing more about your cordials, possibly in the "Likker is Quicker" forum or here as well. Welcome again and... Wassail!

Hey Scott,

Thanks for the recommendation. I've used Miller's for a long time, I was looking for other sources that I may not be aware of and would like to try. Anyone other than Miller's you know of?

Thanks,

Oskaar

Well there is always Trader Joes, but they tend to be pricey. I have found a bee keeper in riverside someplace.. but I have never spoken to him.

There are a few places in Central and Northen CA, but unless you want to make your honey purchase a weekend thing, I think the only good source is going to be Millers

Just one minute y'all!!!!!
Honey sources Oskaar's not aware of???? yeah, right!!!!

Re: Honey sources for Oskaar

Well, How about:

Charlie Browns
in Little Rock, CA
They sell BUlk Honey, Molasses, and Maple Syrup
Their prices are very resonable, and are adjusted as availability changes

Yo Jim-AAAY!

Welcome to the boards.

Generally those of us in California get hit with a pretty stiff shipping and handling fee for anything out of state because of the weight of honey, so that pretty much precludes cross country honey shipments. It's much more cost effective to find local beekeepers and companies which most of us have been able to do.

Thanks so much for your suggestion,

Oskaar

Actualy that was in Little Rock, California, not Arkensas.

They are on the 138 (Pear blossum(sp) Highway), just east of Palmdale, or about 35 miles west of the 15 freeway.

There are also a couple of Apiary's off the 138 in southeast Phelan, just west of the 15, before the 138 goes past the turnoff to wrightwood

Holy Cats!

There's a Little Rock, CA?

Funny I used to go up in that area by Wrightwood all the time to go shooting so I dunno why I didn't know about Little Rock. I had a buddy that lived in Phelan for a while, he told me a funny story about the High School there not being named Phelan High 'cause it sounded like "Feelin High." I don't remember what the name of the High School is, but it still cracks me up.

OK, so this guy have a website, telephone, or what? Do you know what kind of honey he sells?

adTHANKSvance,

Oskaar

If you have an e-mail address, web site, or any other info, please let us know. Phelan is not that far if a good deal is at the end of the trip.

Ted

Thanks for that Brian.

Hmmm, this place looks suspiciously like one of those roadside gastations that has "everything" you need that grew from a gas station into . . . something evil! LOL Kind of like the one out there in Cabazon by the T Rex and Brontosaurus.

Cheers,

Oskaar

That is a Very Good Description of Charlie Browns... So do not take the wife when you go.

As for the ones in Phelan, I do nto know the Names, I jsut saw them while driving through.

This one is in Northern Phelan

American Indian Honey & Natural Foods Co
(760) 249-6162
5350 Sandstone Rd
Phelan, CA 92371

Thers might have just been orchards that have their own apiarys and are selling the honey

Hi everybody...

There is a local beekeeper named Ross Mearns (Mearns Honey) here in Agua Dulce (near Littlerock). he has his own hives. Mostly what he has is orange blossom and avocado honey (yuck). Prices are reasonable. He has extractors at his home which is about 1/2 mile from me.
