It's a "vinometer." It's supposedly measures ABV by allowing the sample to drip through the little passageway in the center. It's an interaction between fluid density, viscosity, and surface tension.

In practice, it's insanely inaccurate. Trust me, I got one and threw it away after running it through tests and trying it with my meads.

I already have a hydrometer, so I'll just hang onto this as it looks cool ;) and it's Made in Germany!
