What pets/animals do you keep?

After doing a search and not seeing this thread come up, I figured I'd make it myself. After all, what forum is complete without it? What do you guys keep?

I have a Bearded Dragon, a Tanzanian tail-less whipscorpion, four ant colonies (each started from a single brand new queen) and a colony of orange spotted roaches I'm breeding to use as cheap lizard/ant food. They aren't your typical pets, but that's why I like them. Then as family pets we have 2 dogs (lab mix and German shepherd/Akita mix) a cat, a parakeet and a couple chickens. nd since they say a picture speaks a thousand words...

Quite the odd zoo... What about you folks? I know at least some of you have bees as well as other things, wha'cha got?

One Cat for me, but you will hear, at least, of dogs and horses here.

Don't know about Lions & Tigers and Bears (Oh My!).

Probably no more interesting menagerie than yours, though.

Oh I don't know about that, we have beekeepers here, and any social insect is right up there at the top of my list. Love horses too, I've been on several genuine cattle drives working closely with horses. They're incredible animals.

...Cats, on the other hand, tend to be plain evil. Just sayin'.

Black and white spotted Polish Dwarf rabbit named Spot (around 5 years old now), grey mixed-breed fat pony named Fantacie (22 going on 3). And the Chevette. And a husband. And two tenants. Honestly the humans make more mess than the critters.

Spot's cage is in my living room (she used to be allowed to run free in the room under supervision, although after the last time she chewed on the dining room table, she's been relegated to lap-rabbit), Fantacie's boarded at a riding stable about 40 min drive away.

I also have a bunch of African Violets, an orchid and a bougainveilia whom I torture regularly, they seem to like it.

When are you getting back together?

Ha, probably never. Still great friends though. I obviously can't rule it out, but I think it'll be a good long time, if ever.

Always interesting when you can still be great friends... We had two of my exes at our wedding and one of them was in the wedding party and also was our chauffeur on our honeymoon ;D

She can't catch them though, gotten a bit old for that.
Must say it has been a great ride with her and had many wonderful days
in the field working with her. It is truly fascinating to see a good dog hunt.

Having been on the cattle drives and watched the dogs they use work together to flush cows out of dense brush, among other things, I can certainly agree that a working dog is a fascinating thing to watch.

I'm a dog lover but the wife and I both work and I don't think its fair to leave an animal all day alone(the bunny has a run outside). To each his own of course...

Now take a walk in my shoes for a moment....

I drove 300 miles to find a renowned breed that was started just around the corner from where I live???? I am instructed to look them over and pick one
So I set amongst the puppies and say to my self, this is a crap shoot for sure.
Well, I pick one and the breeder say's it has flaws and it must be spayed. Ok, so it goes.....Spent 3 years training this brit and many a hour on the road to and from the grounds. She sleeps in the bed and goes to work with me every day, just like your shadow always following you. One day we are talking to a client and she walks in proud as a peacock with a woodchuck in her mouth and comes right to my side and drops it next to me!!! Big smile on her face, dad I did good, look what I got for you....Client said look a retriever!

Something about the bond of an animal and it's care taker....
When they have a good home and companionship these dogs will work their hearts out for you. I can see the past days and after many a grueling hours working for what game can be found these days, you can just look at her and see a smile on her face. But the best part is at the end when you return to the living room in front of the fire, she has a belly full and is curled up next to you just a flat happy spaniel pooped out and sleeping like a lamb...

Don't get any better than that folks...

My first kitten picked me...and when he had clearly made his wishes known, I pondered the question "But what if I were to take two kittens?" He promptly got off my lap and went and found his sister...Yep, that guy did all the choosing...And It Was Good.

I've got three dogs, a shiba-inu/shepherd mix, a black pug, and a jack russell terrier. 7 Light Brahma Chickens (6 hens, 1 rooster), 2 Buff Orpington hens, 3 Black Star Hens, 2 Speckled Sussex hens, and 1 Red Star hen. If we had the land and the money I'd have a horse and some goats too.

Just two cats. I'll confirm that they are evil, though not all the time.

On the list for when we have the space: bees, chickens, a goat or two, and a dog if we are home enough. Maybe more cats, but they'd probably be outdoor.

I do admit that not *all* cats are evil. We had a cool one once, a stray my dad picked up in a parking garage where he had his business. He brought it home to try to cheer up my mom, who was upset at the death of a cat she loved very much. (Got run over.) Obviously, this did not go over very well... Eventually she came to like him. He was an adult when my dad got him and lived for another 14 years. He was a very dark gray. We named him Bob. He wasn't crazy or prissy or demanding. Very laid back. I miss that cat.

An aged rescue hound, 9 years old now, was abandoned in a nearby alley for a couple of nights before he got taken in. He seems a mix of black lab, german shepherd, and some kind of terrier. Goes barkers over beer but Guinness is his favorite (I share with him, just a little slosh in a bowl), likes hot sauce too which I discovered by accident. Tried making a puppy repellant, half vegetable oil, half Dave's Insantity Sauce, to keep him from chewing on the furniture. He lapped it up.

Also The Daughter's beta fish, named Sea Sky.
