My LHBS carries raw wildflower honey from western MI. The supplier is a friend of the owners, and it is the best price I have found at about $3.50 US. I will have to post some pics of it this weekend when I get my batch going.
I might be new to the site, but I am not a big believer in the claims of pure varietals. I mean, sure if you set your hive up in a field of goldenrod, that is where most of the nectar comes from - but unless you put a glass dome around it you can't guarantee what it is.
So I think my plan is to look for various sources of honey, taste them, and go from there with what I think will be a nice complement to that taste.
But maybe I am weird.

Haha, all the other local apiaries want closer to $4/lb. And that is with my own containers.
Northen Brewer is cheaper for wildflower if you buy 12lbs at a time, but that is before shipping. After the 11 dollars to ship to my home it is over 4.
So I think 3.50 a lb is a pretty good price. ;D

Man and I was upset when my supply went up to 2.50/lb. Guess I must be spoiled out here! Course I buy mine by the 60lb bucket.

Yeah, but I also do not have any plans to make that many batches. I would not have room in my basement for all the equipment. I am hoping to have couple going at any one time by the end of the fall. I am sure prices will go way up once winter sets in.

I think I'm paying just over $90 for a 30 lb bucket... the best deal I get is when I trade a bottle of mead or wine for a kg of honey...

So, far, I am liking my local wildflower honeys best, myself. And, getting a deal is a good thing.
