Where does 'Mead' or 'Honey-Wine' fit on the retail shelf?

Ah, I see. Your state is an odd one! We only have liquor stores up here, booze isn't sold anywhere else, so stuff like this doesn't really come up.

Yes, I am very well aware of your circumstances with respect to how things are done up North... Our perspective is yours is less appealing as a state run enterprise than our craziness here in NY State.... Please don't take that the wrong way either. It just goes to show that when government sticks it's nose into the day to day operation of business the consumer always seems to get the short end of the stick.... My family hails from Timmins, Ontario which is well north of Toronto! Good to hear and discuss things with you, hope you will stay in touch with opinions and views from your neck of the woods.

Best Regards,

TB

No worries at all, this kind of business is certainly not the kind of thing where the gov does a fantastic job running it (though they run it poorly on purpose because they want it expensive so people drink less... supposedly), but where I live it's actually not run by the state, hasn't been for decades (Alberta). Not sure about all the other provinces, know Ontario is state only (I think?) and BC has both private and gov run stores. I think there are plenty of other provinces where liqour is run privately.

We just don't have booze in gas stations and grocery stores, has to be a designated liquor store.

Brad, back on-topic

Just to jump back to the topic of placement. A separate section for Mead and Cider might be a great idea, maybe I will see if we can co-ordinate with some of my major volume retailers (hopefully we get one or two!) and get a small section or at least a shelf of just these types of drinks.

The collaboration to establish mead in a certain section or area would greatly benefit the entire industry. Were all fighting for shelf space, it is much easier if we have a united front with stats to prove that it works.

For now, I will try to also focus on our craft brew stores, so far I have only done pre-sales work at wine stores. Even these 'wine' stores though have craft brew sections (almost exclusively craft brew, no Miller or Inbev in sight)
