Why does my Apple/Pear/Blackberry taste so bad :(

I'm 6'2'' and was at 290 lbs and my doctor told me to stop f-ing around. I became sedentary since my job pretty much has me sitting in meeting room or desk or dark little edit room all the time. T

he only thing that was inflating me was the daily pint or two at the local, the thrice weekly two fingers of Glen, and of course, the mead! Not to mention the three bottle of wine lunches with clients that happened at least twice sometimes 4 times a week!

As far as results in one month, how about 20 pounds in three weeks from (a) no booze of any kind...no sugar at all..two hours a day of walking..that's every day rain or shine. When it rains I go to the gym and get on a treadmill. Add to that three hours a week doing resistance training and you get 20 pounds in three weeks...for me. (that whole thing is (a)...there is no (b) ) Everyone is different.

It's really the only way... when people around here ask me what I'm doing, I tell them I found this incredible new secret diet... eat right and exercise! It is dull and boring and it sucks.

I could still enjoy the odd drink, but it would extend this torture. It's much easier to drop 5 than to get way over and drop 50. By April 4th, I will be able to reintroduce booze (in New Orleans...in a BIG way) then enjoy in moderation until I reach the goal of 240. At my height, any less and people start asking if I'm OK. :)

OK...enough of that! I just had to ask Richard Simmons to leave.

I bet if you experimented with some blending you might be able to improve the flavor.

Good stuff Manny! I too was in a similar situation. 6'6" and 300lbs. Over 2 years I lost 100 pounds, by eating as little processed foods as possible (fruits, veggies, lean meats) and the occasional "fun" food. And a whole lot of racing (adventure, bike, tri, whatever.) I now sit around normally between 200 and 215 depending on what I'm doing. So keep it up, you will feel better and enjoy life more once you get down there!

Cheers!

The best advice I ever read about a maintaining a healthy diet without stressing was; eat food, not too much, mostly plants.

Yeah. After a month of that I would most likely eat a bullet. Lol. Everyone is different. But yes, that's probably the best way to go to live a very very long life. It will most likely seem a lot longer than it is.

My father used to say, "Eat right, exercise,go to bed early, don't drink and you will die healthy."

I, and I suspect most of us here, will take meat and mead thanks! Vegetarians, I Iook forward to your angry letters. :)

Yeah I researched Atkins Paleo South Beach DASH and many others. Meh. Complicated solutions to an easy to solve problem.

Weight loss is simple. Eat good unprocessed food and work up a sweat every single day. It's SIMPLE. but very hard and incredibly boring.

Boy. Some apple/pear/blackberry mead would really hit the spot right about now.

I got about a case of the shit you can have :p

Haha. Put it in a deep dark corner of the basement and forget about it. I bet dollars to donuts that in a year things will improve.

Oh Manny, you got it wrong, I am far from being a vegetarian. By mostly plants, I'm taking that to mean that the meat portion is a third of the plate not half or two thirds and before my heart attack that could easily have been the case for me.

eek Sucks about the heart attack.. Glad you came out the other end eating meat and potatoes! Because that Kale shit will make you commit crimes. Well, at least this way you can live long enough to wait out that mead!;D

I kind of liked what I saw of the Zone diet - the idea is to keep your sugar and insulin levels within a particular zone. Made a lot of sense when I was reading the theory. Basically, trim down the carbs, never go longer than 5 waking hours without eating (snack every 2 hours is recommended), always have protein included in every meal or snack, get just enough fat, and go easy on the fruits and go nutz with the veggies. I just got irritated with their idea that "you're only as good as your last meal". Screw that noise, I need to indulge, dammit. Onion rings, croissants, chocolate, candy...

And kale's OK if you drench it in a nice creamy salad dressing...;D

Right but where will you live because you're spending so much time thinking about eating and making meals and filling little bags with nuts that you won't have time to work at a job.

I believe money and convenience are the two reasons Americans are obese, among other problems. If you care about your health you will invest the time needed to be healthy, stay healthy, and thrive on life. I invest time in my meals and I am a very healthy individual, I plan to stay this way so it is no problem for me. The majority of packaged food is sold because people are too lazy to cook.

That's not what I was getting at. You're doing the right thing. It's relatively easy and fun to cook good unprocessed food.

I meant that diets like Zone and Atkins and ::insert latest diet here:: are not realistic. Too much time to do something that 99.9%!of people cannot sustain for more than a week.

Diets are just another magic pill. The only way is to eat right and work your ass off walking running biking stretching and of course, laying off the booze.

April 4th baby.

Science will never be able to solve issues for every individual, so it is important to mold and tailor your own diet/workout plan to your bodies needs. However, understanding what your body likes and dislikes is a long lengthy detailed process, one I wish you success in.

I completely agree. Thanks for the good wishes!

I promise to post pictures on April 4th in the French Quarter. Unless of course, the NOPD takes them for me LOL.
