me-mdrf2010-xsHey Meadsters and Meadettes!

Yeah, that’s me, having a rare moment of fun dressing up in funny clothes and drinking a lot of mead at the Maryland Renaissance Festival a couple years ago.

As you know, Gotmead has been around since the internet was Googleless (is that a word?). During that time, we’ve updated any number of times, and the site has grown and grown, like a weed it’s grown. I’ve kept maintaining the site, but have fallen down on the job with the upgrades and posting like I used to.

Well, all that is gonna change.

The site works, and the forum continues to be a hotbed of mead lovers, but frankly, the old girl is looking pretty frowzy. It’s time to give her a new body, a new look, and a new direction!

This is the Year of GotMead (at least for me). The site and forum are getting a MAJOR overhaul, and being updated to the latest and greatest versions of the software that runs the whole shebang. And as you can see, I’ve added a new blog (the old software crapped on me), and hooked it up to a shiny new Facebook page (yeah, yeah, I shoulda done this *ages* ago, but dude, I’ve been BUSY, ya know? Work keeps getting in the way of my fun), which in turn hooks up to a shiny new Twitter account. Cracks me up that I do this stuff for clients for a living and its taken this long to get GM doing it. I’m kinda embarrassed, truth be told. But no matter. Better late than never!

Along with the software and look and feel upgrades will be coming new toys and tools, and a complete re-think of the Patron program (never fear, if you have one now, you’ll be great, and may even get new shiny goodies!) to make sure that Gotmead is living up to it’s own hype.

Get this gang, over 140,000 of you a month drop by and give us a look. 140 THOUSAND! That is huge, since the site was founded, traffic to learn about mead has increased several hundred percent. The word is getting out!! And that is GM’s reach with just a site and forum. How much change can we create with all the new stuff?

After seeing the 60% increase in entries at the Mazer Cup this year (and seeing an endless number of bottles at the awards ceremony), I am convinced that mead is the new black (I mean wine, LOL). We (meaning mead lovers) are gathering momentum, and I don’t doubt that we will continue to grow every year. And Gotmead intends to be there, being your faithful reporter of what is happening, who is making it happen, and where you can get the best meads and learn the best meadmaking techniques.

I intend to make the site much more interactive, and will be seeking out people who want to become GotMead Bloggers to bring more variety to our world here. So if you have a mead blog and want to benefit from our crazy traffic, drop me a line, we’re talking to people now!

I’m talking to all sorts of people to bring you the best mead-related content I can find, and thinking outside the box (box, what box? this looks more like a handbasket!) to find ways to be innovative and far-reaching so bring the Word of Mead to the masses.

I hope you’ll come along for the ride. It’s gonna be a roller coaster! Lets make the mead industry sit up and take notice!

More to come……
