Primary headspace,
not a concern when active.
Secondary matters.

Aerate! You (your) must!
To one third sugar break, no more.
Nutrients involved.

Carbon Dioxide
covers your must at first, yes.
Racking brings caution.

When fermentation
is done, worry about air
but not until then.

Oxidation, hmmmm?
Mead is not beer, don't worry!
Unless you splash late.

Age is wonderful.
Flavors come forward and back.
Time and skill will tell.

From the tri-tranes of wildaho. I'm not Nostradamus but I can predict your mead!

Sun sparkles through it,
the mead droplets in the glass,
for the angels' share

And one from my wife (She is from Japan; where Basho also is from; He is Mr. Haiku):

かき混ぜて (kakimazete / stir)
眺めるあぶく (nagameru abuku / you see suds)
ハニーワイン (honi wainu / it's mead)

It seems our competition has some, uh, competition. I ran across this site where a fellow is making his Red Wine Review in Haiku. I have to admit that limiting wine critics to 17 syllables has a certain appeal - forcing a little discipline on some of those gas bags. I particularly liked his take on these.

381) Domaine Vigouroux Gouleyant Cahors Malbec 2006 (France)
Rubber burns the road
But you can't smell anything
Horseshit on tires

106)Pellegrini Vineyards North Fork Merlot 1999 (Long Island, NY)
Barbecued handbag
Carpet cleaner marinade
Finishes like Scope

Medsen,

Is Google built into your genetics?

I love this guy, he nails every one of the wines I've tried, and his other descriptors make me want to try them, bad as they may be. "Horse shit on tires"... Can it really be any more specific? Do we really need more than 17 syllables to really express the moment?

There is a moment,
Do I like it? Yes or No.
How did I get here?

Naw, it came installed with my Borg implants!

With Romulan ale
your resistance is futile.
Live long and prosper!

(yep, I went to see Star Trek a second time)

Kirk is/was the man
Wait, steer this back to the mead
honey infused bliss!

Eric

Sunlight glistens and
sparkles in my mead glass like
Captain Picard's scalp.

hmmm... somehow I'm losing the poetry here...
Let's try a different tack shall we.

Clearing
Tropic breezes push
lazy clouds past the palms like
lees slowly settling.

That's better.

I ran across these beauties in the MLD archives while looking for something else.

Here, I wrote this haiku:

Orange Blossum Mead
A Heinous liquid sorrow
Were did we go wrong?

Or, I think my favorite haiku:

Orange born Mead child
We gave all but got no love.
Why so long to wait?

Just goes to show there is nothing new under the sun, and that the Mead Lovers Digest on the main GotMead site is an enormous compendium of information. Just about every subject we discuss has been hit there at some point over the last umpteen years. It remains a treasure trove if you take the time to search it as well as the Forums.
