Yea, I know, I shouldn't say I feel old. Except, I do. I'm a LOT slower than I was at 20, get tired a LOT easier, and just in the past few years have I really noticed my body begin to slow down. I realize I'm really not "old" yet or anywhere close, but it sure feels that way sometimes. Also, I tend to like music and such that my parents' generation liked, so I find myself more often talking with people in their 50s or 60s than people my own age. Which lends to the "I feel old" syndrome. But yea, I know I'm a melo-dramatic buffoon ;)

Alright, need to try to clean up a thief to try my first shot at taking a hydrometer reading *after* a batch has already been made without contaminating it... heh :)

See, that's how I try to feel young... do new things like making mead, which make me feel like a foolish 10 year old again. Yar.

I'm still enjoying my first one! I figure I will have my second one when I hit 60. That's about as good a time as any for a mid-life crisis, right? ;D

I have to agree about the tragedy. Another tragedy in the SF world was the death of Douglas Adams, but I have read that someone is working on a sixth book for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy although the name is slipping my mind at the moment.

East Gate huh? That would make the closest town Cody unless you count Wapiti. Has she told you how far it is to the closest mall? I grew up 100 miles east of where she works, hence my avatar. The signs welcoming you to the state used to say "Welcome to Wyoming, Like No Place on Earth".

Douglas Adams is responsible for me and my current hubbie (#3) getting together - third times the charm, eh? He knew the secret of life was 42 LOL.

I lived in Rock Springs for a year (1981) and Green River for 2 years (1982-1894) and worked at one of the soda ash plants (Tenneco then). I loved it there! If I hadn't been laid off in 1984 I would still be there, but alas I moved back to Houston where I could find work. A lot of people hated the isolation but I loved the open country and the hard-working people there.

Ex busboy, dishwasher, bartender, truck driver, school custodian, apartment complex maintenance technician, air force sergeant, army guard officer, English teacher.

I write when the muse strikes me with a bludgeon. I just finished two songs: I Got Lucky Last Night and Eighteen Wheels Keep On Rolling. I have written some things that I think would make good special occasion cards, just need to find a way to submit them for publication.

My hobbies are riding my Harley, snow skiing, camping, playing massively multiplayer online roleplaying games and making mead. I am also a fan of Sci-Fi, Robert Heinlein is my favorite author.

After too many years of working on projects for the aerospace industry, the DOE, and satcom, I am now happily employed in broadcasting (satellite and fiber optic transmission, mobile content delivery, and project planning).

For the first time in many years I actually have evenings and weekends free to spend on my many hobbies/distractions which include brewing beer, wine and mead making (kinda new at this), collecting WWI & WWII German military memorabilia, collecting beer glasses and miniatures (Liquor). Astronomy is my greatest passion and if it were up to me I would sleep all day so I could look at the heavens all night (it never gets old), and I have been geocaching for a couple of years.

My wife and I enjoy biking, hiking, dancing (ballroom), swimming and snorkeling, and will be in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend for our OW SCUBA certification (hopefully).

I don’t read much (bad eyes) but I enjoy anything by Tracy Hickman and/or Margaret Weis (Dragonlance Chronicles, The Death Gate Cycle).

The only video game I play is Guitar Hero.

Oh, The DL stuff by Weis and Hickman take me back to my childhood, don't read that stuff much anymore though. The Death Gate Cycle I still consider one of my all time favourite Fantasy series though.

Just a hunch, but I think meadmakers (and probably overall, makers of any kind of fermented beverage) tend to be ecclectic folk who don't fit convential social patterns, especially aging. "Fifty is the new forty," I've heard, and I think for many of our people the expanded horizons that come with age are only more opportunities to have fun. ;D

I'm a beginning player on the bodhran (Irish frame drum) and Irish tin whistle, joining in local music sessions at a nearby pub and playing the whistle at our hospital psychiatric unit, where I am employed. Here's a link to photos from our music sessions:

Over the last few years I teamed up with cousin Bernadette in New Jersey and did a kind of Irish version of Alex Haley's Roots story, tracing down where our Irish immigrant ancestor, great grandfather Michael McFeeley, came from and why, with only a handful of family stories to work with. We were successful in finding the village where he was born, and contacted Irish relatives who still live there. Last August I took my 12 year old daughter Rachel with me to visit the village and area, Carrowmenagh, county Donegal, on the Inishowen peninsula in Ireland. A wonderful trip! Link to photos is here:

The way I see it, life is too interesting to get old. ;D

Most of my hobbies have taken a backseat since the addition of our second son back in August of this year. I try to make as much time as possible for weightlifting and mountain biking. My undergrad major was studio art, but I haven't been able to even crack my sketchbook open in months. My meadmaking and beer-brewing skills are almost non-existant at this point. I've got 22 pounds of honey crystalizing in my cupboard and I think I have to throw away the Belgian Wit yeast that I've had in the fridge because it's been there for about 6 months now.

...I can change a diaper in about 20 seconds flat though...so I got that going for me...

By the way, Terry Pratchette is the man.

I've been there, Fishbone--there were years where I hardly had time to sleep between getting 4 kids all grown up. But that time doesn't last (okay, it goes on for a looooong time, yeah) and now they ARE all grown up.

Yours will too. :)
