Picked up a glass 6.5 gallon carboy and some yeast at the LHBS. I'm up to two glass 5 gallon carboys, one 6.5 gallon carboy, one 4 liter wine bottle and three 3 liter bottles. For beekeeping I had to get a new veil, the seam ripped out on my old one and the bees were getting in at the worst time, ouch. Also needed a third 5 gallon bucket for honey storage after extracting from my hives. Picked up two cases of quart ball jars for honey storage and two cases of pint jars to be used for honey as gifts or sale.

I am resisting the urge to buy another 25 pounds of Meadowfoam.

I already caved in and got 25 pounds for a 5-gallon JAO for the New Year. :)

Kace,

Pump goes for $125 at MoreBeer. Temp controllers are roughly $75 each. It is not going to be cheap, so I am saving the pennies carefully. It should take about a year to assemble the basics, after which I will be able to start putting it together. I may get some schematics for the controller circuit and construct it myself to save some $. We will see. Also going to purchase a 9 gallon SS kettle with ball valve. Will also come in handy to mix my Must and just tap it into a Carboy when making the Mead.

Angus

Please keep me posted on this? I'm rather intrigued by the whole idea, and it's been sort of tough to find specs for it all. About the controller circuit, I might even have access to some gear to print some cheap-y circuit boards for it. :)

I recently picked up a second 6gal ported Better Bottle with drylock, hungarian oak (light and dark toast) D47, 18lb of assorted local honey (mostly blueberry) bentonite, also a membership to gotmead patrons.

Given my propensity for the higher alcohols, I need long term storage. Seeing the demijohns that Wrathwilde is using, I've been envious of this higher capacity storage, but with butterfingers, large glass containers present a hazard.

I recently picked up an alternative.

This is a used 10-gallon ball lock keg. I have managed to pick up a several of these on Ebay for prices ranging between $75-$175. I believe you can still find new ones for about $450.

They are not quite as large as a 15 gallon demijohn, so I'll still be a little envious, but I'm happy with this very flexible system. They are virtually indestructible, being stainless steel, and they are airtight. They are much cheaper than the airtight steel containers on morewine, and because they are kegs, you can pressurize/carbonate in them.

In addition, they use all the ball lock fixtures and appurtenances that the regular kegs do. This way I can transfer from keg to keg (with filters), and can use my Blichmann mead gun for bottling.

I can still lift and move a full 10 gallon keg - but it is heavy. They will fit into my fridge for cold crashing or storage.

Yes, bigger is better......

Picked up a Color LaserJet printer for making labels. I can not believe how inexpensive these are now. I remember the day when they cost thousands of dollars. Now you can get a good one for under $300. The ole bubble jet is going to be retired today.

I picked up an auto-siphon today. I racked my forst batch this past weekend with a standard racking cane and hated it. 12 bucks well spent I think.

I've officially given up on my LHB stores and placed an order with http://www.allaboutmead.com

I intended only to order some Fermaid-K, GoFerm, and DAP. But after browsing the site I also picked up some PH test strips and a lees stirrer before my wife wrestled me away from the computer.

I just put together my 42 gallon stainless steel conical 'fermenator'

It's a beauty, and shipped problem free and duty free.

I had to get the triclamp fittings - just too cool and convenient to pass up.

Yeah, I feel a little embarrassed, I only got a 9 gal pot and propane burner - for the beer brewing. I need to do something while I'm waiting for my mead to age out. :)

- 8 packs of D47 yeast
- 4 packs of bentonite

(these three only cost $5.00 total. the yeast says Jan 2009 on the box, I hope it's still good)

Well it's no match for a 42 gallon Conical, but I just snagged a 15 gallon Corny Keg. I don't know what I'm going to make 15 gallons of yet (or where I'm going to put it), but I'll figure something out.

In the words of the immortal Lorax,
I meant no harm I most truly did not, but I had to grow bigger so bigger I got!

Ok, so it may seem a little crazy but...

Two bare root apple trees. Going to put them out front to provide shade and of course apples. Hubby thinks I have lost it.

Also got my lees stirrer, star san, and a five gallon gasoline jug for storing it. Now if I can finish the quilt I'll have time to brew....
