I live in Washington State, on the desert side of the Evergreen State.. the east side.
Here I've tried Mead at a Ren Faire in Gig Harbour... the west side... and Commercial Mead from a winery close by.
Out of 10 I give it a 9.5.
Bonair Winery... have two meads available...
Winter Solstice Mead: Celebrate the return of the sun! Same as above, but with cinnamon and clove. Nuke a mug in the microwave and serve hot on those cold, dreary days. The Solstice occurs December 21 at 5:00am on the west coast this year! 750 ml bottle. $ 14.99.
Out of 10... we give it an 8. It sometime has a bite and sometimes is smooth... reading recently on the GotMead site.. I see that this is not unusual. Different bottles have a slightly different taste... or perhaps it's just influenced by my tastebuds at the time. I dunno
Their Plain Mead... out of 10 ... I give it a 7. It's palatable most of the time. But sometime has a dry bite to it... I prefer slightly sweeter.
A mead I want to try is from Chateau Lorane... from the Portland Oregon area... their "Faerie Nector". http://www.chateaulorane.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=009&DEPT=1040414897&CAT=1093292419
